We borrowed The Circus Ship by Chris Van Dusen from the library last week and have really been enjoying it. The story is loosely based upon wreck of the Royal Tar off a Maine island in 1863, except in this fictionalized version the animals survive and are taken in by the island’s townspeople. The illustrations are incredibly detailed, and the story is told in clever, engaging rhyme. I think this book is going to go on this year’s Christmas list.
